Into The Mist
Ball fields in East River Park @ Houston Street
Five years ago this week, a view of the playing field in East River Park. I’d never seen anything quite like this before and haven’t since. Sometimes it’s just the right time of day, with an unusual atmosphere (thank you Mother Nature), and the timing...
I was looking at the inclement weather from the picture window of our apartment 12 floors above. And then I saw it; the dense fog moving in, the park lights glowing through, the vivid, dark, lacey tree branches, and then that solitary figure. encircled by those branches, walking towards that mysterious, somewhat ominous white mist. It was at once lovely and eerie.
If this were a horror film we’d all be yelling, “Don’t go over there!” But I also feel the softness and white mist, and the white lines of the field leading into the distance—well, it seems inviting at the same time.
I took this with my Canon 5D Mark III using my 24-105mm lens set at 105, with an exposure of 1/200 sec, f4.0, and ISO 2500. I’ve never printed this, but have gone back to look at it several times. I’m thinking it would have to print fairly large on a silky or luster paper with just the right amount of sheen.
