Learning at a Photo Conference
I was very glad to have the opportunity to learn and experiment with lighting and camera settings at a recent photography conference I attended in New York City. There were, of course, models on sets that the photographers in attendance could visit and photograph with suggestions and guidance from other experienced photographers who where working as or with exhibitors on site.
I chose black and white for the young woman in the darkened room “looking out a rain covered window” trying to capture a film noir effect. I did some dodging and burning in photoshop and softened the image of the ballerina in a hope to capture a bit of an ethereal effect to enhance the soft light beam coming in from the upper right.
I had a lot of fun that day and took about 350 photos at various settings. I learned more about lighting techniques, both flash and continuous, and about camera settings (on my new Canon R5) to achieve different looks from the same subject matter.
