Photographs and Maxims…

Fading Tulip in the Morning

I was looking through Damned Welcome, a book of maxims by Eli Siegel, the other day and some of the maxims brought to mind photographs I had taken, and I thought, “Hey, these maxims could encourage me to photograph specific situations or objects, encouraging me to look freshly as I’m photographing, and to look at some existing photographs in a new way. “Okay,” my conversation with myself continued, “let me do this for some blog posts in the future and see how it goes.” Besides I love reading maxims from this book! So you will see from time to time a photo paired with one of Eli Seigel’s maxims, one having brought to mind the other.

So I begin with Maxim #3 from Part One of the book: “A dewdrop has good news to tell which lasts after it is gone.”

And this photo that I took on a late summer morning when many tulips passed their prime; the sun was shining and mother nature was providing the moisture.
