Sentry In The Snow
In keeping with last week’s blog, here is another of my favorite “winter in the city” photos. Walking in lower Manhattan, I came upon this beautiful red fire hydrant on the corner of Broadway & Houston. Standing there so proud, like a Sentry on guard, ready to go into action—hoping not—but just in case.
I love that stolid, weighty red hydrant, topped with a soft snowy cap, standing in soft white snow. And Iook at that strong but delicate chain with the pointed tip hovering just above the snow; its shape mimics the snow that covers the hose connector pointing to the left, and the the snowy “cap” pointing up. The chain color relates it to the slushy snow covered road behind. The bright orange shape at the right and the other red hydrant across the street, help keep this Sentry from being isolated.
