The Back Road
Another favorite Autumn image captured on the same road trip, same day as last weeks image. October 2015 was a great year for foliage color in upstate New York. I recall that we had taken a wrong turn; a very fortuitous error as it turns out.
It brings to mind a maxim from Eli Siegel’s book of maxims Damned Welcome. Part 1, Number 139: If a mistake is not a stepping stone, it is a mistake.
I had stopped earlier on this same stretch of narrow back road, but then a little further on, which you see here, were the beautiful fall colors in a bright but muted lighting with a golden hew overall. I wanted to keep the lighting soft to enhance the mystery of the winding road and what may be just around the next curve. It has a hint of eeriness too, in keeping with this month’s holiday. So this is the image that I chose to print.
